► 2019 marked the start of the expansion era for the Tri-County American Legion program. As part of a state-wide reorganization, T-C was granted much of the East Haddam territory, meaning players from Colchester, East Haddam and East Hampton became a part of the T-C family beginning with its summer teams. That development allowed for an expansion into the 15U division, with T-C fielding teams at all three Legion levels for the first time in program history. Since then, Tri-County has expanded to the 13U division, with its four rosters bringing together players from our seven Eastern Connecticut towns and as many as 10 different secondary schools each summer to compete in the longest-running and best-disciplined amateur baseball organization in the country -- American Legion Baseball.
► Tri-County’s 17U team won the program's first Department of Connecticut championship in 2019, defeating RCP 1-0 in the state title game to cap off a 6-1 run in the state tournament. 3B/RHP Mike Poncini (RHAM '22) was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher in the tournament, with C/1B Alex Brett (RHAM '20) the Most Outstanding Hitter. The team advanced to the Northeast Regional tournament in Concord, N.H., where it wrapped up its season with a 21-13 overall record.
► With a 20-2 record, Tri-County’s 15U team won the 2019 Zone 3 regular-season championship and won four state-tournament games before falling to Stamford 9-6 in the final to finish as Connecticut's runner-up. T-C 15U finished the season 27-4.
► In 2020, Tri-County teamed with Prep Baseball Report-New England to put on the Legion team's first program-wide showcase, with more than 40 players participating. Click here for some quick hits from the day.
► In 2018, Tri-County's Summer 19U team had its deepest state tournament run in more than 15 years, sweeping its Sectional Tournament and winning its opener in the Super Regionals (the state's final 8) before being eliminated as one of the state's final six teams. The team went 22-15-2 overall, including a 4-2 record in the state tournament, and boasted a sweep of the Zone 7 postseason honors with SS/RHP Wyatt Sihvonen (Lyman '17) named Most Outstanding Player and Ryan Skaff (Lyman '18) sharing co-Most Outstanding Pitcher honors.
► Thirteen former Tri-County players -- RHP Logan Holcomb (RHAM '19), LHP Robert Synodi (RHAM '20), OF Stanley Cipkas (SMSA '21), RHP Ryan Schultz (RHAM '21), RHP Mike Poncini (RHAM '22), OF Payten Wawruck (Loomis Chaffee '22), C Joe Kalisz (Hale Ray '23), 2B Sam Senes (RHAM '23), C Austin Bigelow (East Hampton '24), OF Jeremiah Bobbi (Lyman Memorial '24), RHP/Inf. Chris Lusignan (Bacon Academy '24), RHP Baden Plante (East Hampton '24) and Inf. Alex Zimmerman (East Hampton '24) -- are expected to be part of their college teams in the spring of 2025. T-C has had more than 50 players compete at various levels of college baseball over the last dozen years.
T-C Alumni: World Series Winner Pollock Completes 12th MLB Season
Outfielder A.J. Pollock (Marlborough/Hebron) played the 2023 season
with the Seattle Mariners and the San Francisco Giants, his 12th season in the majors. Pollock, an All-Star in 2015 with the Arizona Diamondbacks,
was part of the LA Dodgers' team that defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2020 World Series after he finished third in the NL with 16 homers during the pandemic-shortened regular season.
Pollock made his major-league debut with the Diamondbacks early in the 2012 season and picked up his first hit on April 23, 2012 — about seven years after he played his last Legion game at West Road Memorial Field (right).

Pollock, who was the 17th overall pick in the 2009 draft out of Notre Dame, played three summers with the Tri-County American Legion team under his father, Al Pollock, and Al Garray. As a shortstop with the T-C Legion team (then known as "Legion East"), Pollock was the youngest player selected for 2003 Legion "Futures Game" (.418 in 46 games).
He followed that up with back-to-back All-Star selections in Zone 7, batting .472 in 44 games in 2004 and .464 in 43 games in 2005, when he was also a recipient of the Zone 7 Sportsmanship Award. In January, 2012, Pollock was honored as Connecticut's American Legion Alumnus / Minor League Player of the Year at the annual Hot Stove Dinner.
